Tiger Beach (Laohutan) Ocean Park

Located at No.9 Middle Binhai Road in Dalian, Laohutan Ocean Park covers an area of 1,180,000 square meters and occupies a 400 meters long coastline, which is the biggest modern lido in China. Blue sky, clear water, green hills, odd rocks inside the park prevent the splendid beach scenery. As a modern ocean park, Laohutan Ocean Park combines tourism, popular science, recreation, shopping and culture of the coastal city of Dalian. In the Park, many attractive natural sceneries and magnificent artificial sights can be seen, especially the Tigers Sculpture Square and Tiger Beach Polar Region Marine Animals World.
Legend has it that there was a tiger lived in the mountain near the sea that often hurt people and animals. One day, the tiger caught a pretty girl who was the daughter of the Dragon King. A young man named Shi Cao heard the girl crying for help and saved her from the tiger. In order to repay Shi Cao for saving her life, the Dragon King’s daughter married him. Shi Cao was a brave man who wanted to exterminate the sinful tiger to protect villagers around the mountain. However, he was told that only a special sword in the Dragon King's palace could kill the tiger. One the day the Dragon King’s daughter back to home to get the sword, the tiger hurt people again. Shi Cao fought against the tiger to death. The one of tiger’s tooth became a cliff, tail turned into Laohuwei Peninsula in Lvshun Port, the body became Laohutan Beach, and half of its head became a mountain. Shi Cao turned into a cliff near the shore. When the girl came back, she found that her husband had been died. She was so inconsolable that became another cliff beside Shi Cao.
Tigers Sculpture Square
Covering an area of 15,700 square meters (about 4 acres), the square was designed in an irregular shape, not a traditional circular shape. Tigers sculpture, designed by the famous Chinese painter and sculptor - Mr. Han Meilin, is the symbol of Tiger Beach Ocean Park. The sculpted tigers are 35.5-meter-long (about 116 feet), 6.5-meter-high (about 21 feet) and 6.5-meter-wide and took Mr. Han two years and nine months to finish this great work. Heading eastward, the six tigers are all different in shapes and sizes. They roar into the wind expressing their power as the King of Beasts. The Tigers Sculpture Square is the most beautiful and florid among many squares in Dalian.
